Mid Project Social Concern

This project is designed to allow you to demonstrate all of the skills you have gained in this class (and before). The sooner you start working on this the better. Point values for each task are in parenthesis and total 100 points.

Scenario: Knowing how social media has inundated our lives, and the realization that fake news can affect every aspect of your life. You have decided that you want to develop a way to reduce the amount of fake news that many people use to cause fear or spread untruths. Your main concern are health scares. You have decided to write a minimum of a 3 page paper to your computer science teacher that will detail whether you, your family, friends and teachers should consider the information you have researched about children and vaccinations. I have provided three videos who showcase two different points of view. You must watch all of these videos and decide which point of view you agree with. Then you must research for information that will support your decision.


Once you have made your choice your challenge is to write a 3-page research paper meeting the guidelines listed below.

♔ File Management
o Create a folder titled: Lastname_First initial_Winter_Project. [x/1]
o When complete, capture a “Print Screen” of your folder and the appropriately named files for the tasks below. [x/1]

♔Reference Document
o Find at least 5 more websites that you can use to gain information as to whether or not people should be concerned about vaccinations. Use MS Word to create placeholders to save the web site addresses (URL) within your research paper [x/5]

♔Access Ted Talks to see if anyone in the past 5 years has spoke on the need for/against vaccinations, and post that video to your blog. (See below) [x/3] Only  one student can use a particular video once to meet this requirement.

♔Blog. Use www.blogger.com to create a blog that presents the video that caused you to make your decision as to whether vaccinations are safe for children or not safe for children. Comment on the “Mid Project Blog” on my website with the title and URL to your Blog. [x/3]

♔Business Letter
o Write a letter to your teacher detailing what decision you've made and what your topic will be in your research paper. [x/3]
o Correct formatting (spacing, font size, …) and signatures. [x/2]
o Good content, spelling and grammar check. [x/4]

♔Research Paper
o Write a 3 page paper detailing what your position is on the safety of vaccinating children based on the research you have performed. [x/9]
o You must include 5 websites to support your positions. You can use CDC, Natural News, CIA fact-book, or any other "reputable" website that is not a fake news website. [x/2]
o You must include two authors of either a book or journal article and quote them within your paper.
o Correct formatting (spacing, font size, …) and signatures. [x/1]
o Good content, spelling and grammar check. [x/2]

♔Business Flyer
o Create a flyer for informational purposes to your peers detailing important facts you've found out to support your position. [x/10]
o Include: 2 images, 2 or more font sizes, good use of white space and balance. [x/5]

♔Excel spreadsheet
o Analyze 2 sets of data and use 4 formulas for making calculations. [x/7]
o Present information with 1 meaningful graph that is well formatted and labeled. [x/4]
o Format and print to 1 page. [x/2]

♔Access Database
o Create a database with at least 2 tables; each using at least 6 fields and 5 records to organize data about your findings. [x/5]
o Create and print one report from one of your tables and fit it to one page. [x/2]
o Create and print a report for mailing to your parents, teachers and any other stake holders you deem appropriate. [x/3]

♔PowerPoint Presentation
o At least 6 slides (not including title and bibliography slides) that will inform the audience about your findings. [x/6]
o Insert your Excel chart, and the url of your blog. [x/5]
o Add slide numbers in the footers and a header with your name. [x/2]
o Add speaker notes for at least 2 slides. [x/1]
o Use excellent formatting, slide transitions, sound, and an animation. [x/3]
o Print 6 slides per page. [x/1]
